At THE REF REPORT, our path into Sporting Clays started out as a way for us to do something as a family (and work). Later, we would share our experiences with each other. We talked about the people, the targets, the rules, the refs, guns, ammo, weather, winning, losing, no birds, and lost pairs. We've gone to bat, struck out, and continue to swing for the fences. A Home Run (because Kolin likes baseball) is imminent. We started small dissecting rule books, cutting up shells and conducting research and development if you will, out of our garage. Recreating scenarios and situations we faced. Fueled by months of lockdown and a desire to be better at what I was doing my imagination went wild designing games, events, rewriting the rules, redefining target presentations, course design, range design, trap design, target design, range operating procedures, hardware and software design. Ambition can sometimes lets say disagree with reality and change is hard. The "guns blazing" approach was quickly shot down and extinguished and is nestled safely under a rug by the side door.
Sporting Clays is growing rapidly and we are hooked. Our non bias perspective provides another level of respect for the integrity of the competition and for the rules as written.
Over time, conversations grew and expanded into theory, history, psychology, range design, shoot organization, The Rules of Statutory Construction and Interpretation and our favorite the preservation of human life must come 'More Than Safety First, Safety is Implied'. Imagine a group of people that don't own or shoot shotguns sitting around talking in depth about everything there is to know about Sporting Clays past present and future. At THE REF REPORT, we believe that sports have the power to change lives. We are committed to providing information to athletes of all levels, so they can perform at their best. Shooters who
work hard on every target win. Shooters that have respect for equipment win. Shooters that respect people win.
